Otisville

 

The village of Otisville is a small town in Forest Township, Genesee County, Michigan. It is located along M-57 and M-15, about 19 miles north-east of Flint. A number of people commute to Flint from Otisville, making the city a hub of commerce in the area. In addition to its commercial roots, the city also has a small population of retirees.

Otisville is a relatively small city with a total area of just over 1.0 square mile. Approximately 0.1 square miles is land and the remainder is water. Most of the population resides in single family homes. There are several neighborhoods in the city, including the Downtown area and the Forest/Emerald neighborhood. If you’re considering purchasing a home, you should keep in mind that the housing market in Otisville is still somewhat affordable. Currently, the median price of a home in the city is $177,600.

A few notable things about Otisville include its proximity to Flint and Detroit. Several of the largest auto manufacturers have factories in the area, including General Motors. GM’s recent problems have weighed on the resurgence of the region. However, the Flint area is still one of the top auto producing regions in the country. Additionally, the town is close to many cultural attractions. One of these is the Michigan Legacy Art Park.

During the early 1900’s, the town of Otisville was a lumbering community. A few of the notable settlers in the area were Matthew McCormick, Henry Heister, and Stephen and Amos Biegel. When the town was first settled, it was called “Otisville” but was changed to “Forest” in 1855.

The Historic Brownstone Haus is a historic landmark that is a popular destination for travelers. Located around 16 miles from Otisville, this Victorian mansion has four bedrooms and is a popular vacation rental. Other notable features include a fireplace and a pool table. A few other places to see and stay in the Otisville area are the Kresge Auditorium, the Flint Museum of Art, and the Quanicassee Wildlife Area. Also, there are many golf courses in the area. The best month to visit the city is June.

As of 2010, the city had a population of 864. The median age of the population was 32. The population was made up of a majority of men, with females making up the other half. Nearby are other major cities, such as Fenton, Frankenmuth, and Detroit. Despite the fact that there are many things to do in the area, Otisville is still a fairly conservative place to live.
